Bassin des Aigrettes – Inner Source

Bassin des Aigrettes – Inner Source

There are places that become far more than simple landscapes.
Places we return to almost instinctively, as though a part of us had remained there.

Bassin des Aigrettes is one of those places for me.
Since childhood, I have returned there regularly.
And despite the years, despite the distance, the feeling remains exactly the same each time I stand before this waterfall.

Something immediately softens.

Here, the noise of the world seems to slow down.
Vegetation wraps itself around the volcanic cliffs, the water falls with quiet constancy, and the pool reflects the soft light unique to mornings on Réunion Island.

It may not be the most spectacular waterfall on the island.
But to me, it remains one of the most precious.

Perhaps because it must be earned.
You do not discover it from the roadside.
You have to walk, navigate a few obstacles, and know the trail well enough before finally catching sight of the basin hidden within the vegetation.

Officially, the site is closed to the public and considered dangerous.
And yet, it remains profoundly alive.

A refuge.
An anchor.
A place deeply connected to my memories and to that rare feeling of being exactly where I am meant to be.

Through this image, I was not simply trying to photograph a waterfall.
I wanted to preserve what this place continues to represent for me after all these years.

That calm.
That presence.
And that feeling that some places know us as deeply as we know them.

This photographic artwork explores the relationship between personal memory, tropical nature, and the feeling of rootedness.

Through volcanic textures, light filtering through the vegetation, and the continuous movement of water, the image seeks less to represent a specific place than to preserve what it evokes: refuge, return, and the silent presence of a place that moves through time without ever losing its importance.
