Alone Before the Dying Light

Alone Before the Dying Light

On Réunion Island, the sun never disappears abruptly.
It withdraws slowly, as though respecting the silence it leaves behind.

Facing the Indian Ocean, the light stretches one last time.
It glides across the water, ignites the sky, and brushes against the rocks before slowly fading away.

Everything begins to slow down.
Time itself seems suspended between two breaths.

A solitary figure remains there, motionless, quietly witnessing the passage of the moment.
Small against the immensity of the landscape, yet fully anchored within the present.

I’m drawn to these moments when there is nothing left to understand.
Only to feel.

When the light no longer reveals itself, but offers itself.
When the horizon becomes a gentle boundary between what is ending and what is about to begin.

Photographing a sunset here is not simply about capturing a landscape.
It is about preserving a connection.
The one that still binds me to this island, this ocean, and this light that shaped the way I see the world.

Perhaps this is exactly where my photography begins.
At the moment the sun disappears…
and the emotion remains.

This photographic artwork explores the meeting point between light, human presence, and the memory of place.

Through the colors of the Réunion sky, the reflections of the Indian Ocean, and the silhouette facing the horizon, the image seeks less to represent a sunset than to preserve what it leaves behind: calm, attachment, and that silent emotion unique to the end of the day on the island.
