Untamed Trust

Some moments can never be planned.
They appear quietly, almost without warning.

 

This photograph came to life in the simplest way, during an evening in Mont-Tremblant.
The light was slowly fading behind the forest surrounding the condo where we were staying.
Then, almost instinctively, I looked up.

 

A young deer was standing there.
Alone, calm, quietly feeding on a few leaves as though the rest of the world no longer existed.

 

I picked up my camera and moved forward slowly, convinced it would disappear at the slightest sound.

 

It heard my footsteps.
It lifted its head.
Our eyes met.

 

I stopped moving for a few seconds.
Then continued, even more carefully.

 

To my surprise, it didn’t run away.
It remained alert, yet completely calm.
As though suspended within the same silence I was feeling.

 

Every step became slower.
Every movement required attention.
Until I reached that improbable distance where the moment itself began to feel unreal.

 

That was when I pressed the shutter.

 

A few seconds later, it quietly disappeared back into the forest.
As though nothing had happened.

 

But some moments stay with us for a very long time.
Because they remind us that nature cannot be controlled.
It simply grants us, sometimes, the privilege of being present.

 

This photographic artwork explores the quiet encounter between animal presence, forest stillness, and a suspended moment in time.

Through the soft evening light, the gaze of the deer, and the peaceful atmosphere of the Québec forest, the image seeks less to freeze a scene than to preserve what it feels like when a rare moment appears naturally, without ever being forced.
