Frontenac Silences – Episode VII
The city is already wrapped in silence.
In this narrow street of Old Québec, stone walls tighten the passage and gently guide the eye upward.
Above the rooftops and historic facades, the Château Frontenac suddenly emerges, imposing, almost unreal beneath the dark light of the winter sky.
Mist still lingers close to the ground.
Snow softens every footstep.
The glow from windows and storefronts warms the scene, like small presences within the darkness.
Everything feels slower here.
For this final image in the series, I chose to let the city frame the château.
To watch it emerge between the buildings, like a silhouette standing guard above the streets below.
Over several days, I simply observed this place through different lights and shifting atmospheres.
Sometimes dramatic.
Sometimes softer.
But always inhabited by the same silent presence.
The Frontenac is more than a monument.
It is a silhouette that has accompanied the city for more than a century.
And when silence settles in, it almost feels as though it continues to tell its stories.
Part of the Frontenac Silences series, this artwork concludes a photographic journey devoted to the quiet atmospheres and winter light of Old Québec.
Through narrow streets, historic facades, and the constant presence of the château, the series seeks less to document a place than to preserve what it reveals when the city slows down.
A quiet memory shaped by light, silence, and suspended time.
Each image preserves something ephemeral.
A light.
A presence.
The fragile silence of the early hours.
