Fading Traces
The jetty is still there.
Facing the sea, it continues to extend the shoreline, like an old gesture time never fully erased.
Others, elsewhere, disappeared beneath cyclones.
The original one did not survive.
Here, it was rebuilt.
The wood raised once again.
That fragile line between land and open water restored.Long ago, the boats remained offshore.
Small pirogues carried people, goods, and voices back and forth to the coast.
This place was once movement, effort, repetition.Today, everything feels quieter.
The sea moves slowly, covering and erasing what once was.
The noise has faded.
The gestures too.Only this structure stretching toward the horizon remains,
and this light returning each evening,
extending beneath the pier like a silent memory.Rebuilt, yet marked by time.
Present, yet inhabited by what is no longer there.Fading Traces.
This photographic artwork explores the relationship between memory, territory, and the passage of time.
Through evening light, reflections across the water, and the silent presence of the jetty, the image seeks less to document a place than to preserve what still lingers within it: the quiet traces of gestures, crossings, and stories that once moved through this shoreline.
