After almost two years living in Québec, I finally had the chance to explore more of my adopted home. Over three weeks, our family covered thousands of kilometers, from the Gaspé Peninsula to Niagara Falls, by way of New York. The days were long, the roads endless at times, but every detour had something to offer.

I remember our arrival in Percé especially well. After hours on the road from Matane, the fatigue slowly melted away before the sight that opened up to us. Percé Rock stood out against the evening light while Bonaventure Island rested on the horizon beneath a sky of delicate pink, blue, and violet. The sea was calm, almost still. The last rays of sun slid across the cliffs, revealing forms sculpted by thousands of years of wind, tides, and storms.

What still moves me about this image today is its sense of serenity. Despite the grandeur of the landscape, nothing feels spectacular or loud. Everything is gentleness. Everything is balance. The eye travels naturally from the foreground to the horizon, carried by the twilight glow and the immensity of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. For a few moments, time seems to slow down.

Over the years, this photograph has taken on a different meaning. It reminds me that the most memorable moments of a journey are not always the ones we plan. It is often the silent moments, when we simply stop to take in a landscape, that stay etched in memory. That evening, I remember watching my father admire the scene with a fascination I had rarely seen in him. He who had remained relatively unmoved by the skyscrapers of New York seemed deeply touched by the quiet beauty of this place.

In moments like these, taking the time to contemplate, to breathe, and to commune with nature takes on its full meaning. This photograph has become for me the memory of a shared moment, but also the testimony of a landscape that still invites us, today, to slow down, to observe, and to return to what matters most."

This photographic work explores the meeting of twilight light, the vastness of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and the iconic presence of Percé Rock. Beyond the landscape, it evokes the memory of travels, of passing things on, and those rare moments when the beauty of a place is enough to suspend the rhythm of the world.

Production

Available in 18 × 12, 24 × 16, and 36 × 24 inch formats

Photographic print made with professional pigment inks on high-quality photo paper

A museum fine art 36 × 24 inch edition is also offered on Hahnemühle paper, renowned for its depth and the subtlety of its tones

Print sold on its own, unframed
